the farm
Deer Isle Spirits is a diversified organic farm on the island of Deer Isle in Maine.
The farm is seven acres of gardens, pasture, woods, and bog along the northern shore of Deer Isle. It was farmed off-and-on for more than a century before we moved in. As Deer Isle Spirits, we want the farm to support the island in everything we do – most of all, with food.
The schoolhouse was originally built across the road sometime around 1860. In 1974, it was moved to where it stands today at the center of the farm. It’s mostly just a house these days, but we still use it to study, brainstorm, and debate all-things-Deer-Isle-Spirits.
The clay house (née the garage) has been installed in pieces over the last few years… with the help of friends, family, and Facebook Marketplace.
